I am a member of goodwill guides who offers assistance to foreign visitors in Horyuji Temple. I give foreigners sightseeing information and show them around the temple compounds. I am an ordinary Japanese housewife, who happens to be interested in studying English and talking with foreigners. People visit Horyuji Temple from all over the world and in all seasons. They come from Europe, Asia, Australia, America, Africa..., everywhere ! I guide some of them around Horyuji Temple. We talk about my country, their countries, cultures, lives, families.... What an exciting experience ! Besides, there are so many problems in the world today -- politically, racially, religiously and economically. Many people hate each other -- and some kill. If we had better communication and understanding beyond the barriers of nationality, we could create the much better world without war. Let's exchange greetings, shake hands, talk face to face and get to know each other. This grass-roots activity by ordinary people may be a tiny drop of the ocean but surely it's a first step towards creating understanding between all the people in the world. This is a private site.
